My first trip to Ghana

This time last year, I was preparing for the trip that would change the way I saw myself and my future.  I booked a ticket, got my Visa and packed my bags heading to Ghana, West Africa. Africa up until that time had been a distant and mystical place. I read about Africa in books and knew my ancestors were stolen from there but

Up until the time, I stepped off the plane at Kotoka International Airport in Accra is the capital city of Ghana, Africa had been a distant and mystical place. I read about Her in books and knew my ancestors were stolen from there and even though I longed to walk on Her sea shores, I could not believe it was happening.

I was amazed at the sea of melanin that greeted me at the airport. From the moment I saw the vibrant colors, the faces smiling back at me and heard a language I did not understand, I knew I was home and made up my mind that for the next 10 days I would be present, I would be open and I would never be the same.
